This just in:

Of the 4 schools dropped, from my recollection, only ONE (Combs) even showed up to plead their case at last night's school board meeting.

... and now the N&O reports that Patti Head said "she didn't hear any compelling reason that any other school couldn't use" about why she still wants Combs converted. She must not have been listening at all, because the entire hearing was one compelling reason after another why the conversion of ANY school is wrong. Could you folks in her district please oust her? ... oh, that's right, you recently RE-ELECTED her!

I noted that too, and in light of that, noted the irony of Patty Head's comment in today's article (8/30/06) "We heard the people who spoke to us. Their comments won't be ignored"

We need to organize all 19 schools affected and stage a "Walk Out" to protest this injustice. The local media is not bringing the facts to light and we need the national spotlight to bring it out.

If you want to stop this it is imperative that you call as many people as you know and have them call, email, and/or go visit the school board members. Their contact info is on the WCPSS website. Then they need to call all of the people they know and have them do the same. The turnout at the meeting on Tuesday was relatively small and I know the board was very relieved. Plan to attend the meeting on the 5th and bring all of your friends!
