Important Dates

At the School Board meeting on Tuesday, members voted to delay (slightly) a final decision on which schools to convert to year-round in 2007. On August 15, the board will unveil their list of proposed schools to convert. The public will have until the first part of September to comment online. On September 5, the School Board will have their final vote on specific schools that will be converted. Also, a public hearing on the matter is slated for August 28.

I will try to post some links to specific information soon. Some of us are still trying to find a way to keep these schools from being converted. More later…

Input Needed On Year-Round Conversion Criteria

Sorry for the long gap between postings – I’ve been enjoying the summer with extended family! Now that I’m back in the real world, I’ll try to be more consistent.

Tomorrow night, I will be participating in a focus group meeting that Del Burns has put together to discuss the criteria that the School Board has come up with to aid in their decisions about which schools to convert to year-round in 2007. While I am still hoping that these conversions can be prevented, I am seeking parental opinions on the matter.  You can also give your comments to the School Board, here. I have no idea how much input time will be granted, but I want to go “armed” just in case.  As a matter of principle, I am personally against supporting any of the criteria since it is based on the mandating of year-round schools. I am being invited because I am on the Superintendent’s Parent Advisory Council. Other groups in attendance will include (as far as I know) representatives from the District Advisory Councils, the Teacher Advisory Council, and principals.
